Portuguese Resort Set in a Botanical Garden

The Poruguese island of Madeira has no shortage of quintas, a word that often refers to country houses-many converted to grand coommodations-build on farms or other agricultural lands. And, though I've stayed at several quintas during my numerous travels to Madeira, I've never had a love affair with them. (In Madeira, their architecture typical harkens to a long-ago era, but my sensibilities decidedly veer towards the contemporary.) That changed when I first set eyes on Estalagem Quinta da Casa Branca, a luxe property blanked with a vast botanical garden.
