Mary Price Ratrie Arboretum
Description
The Mary Price Ratrie Arboretum, nestled in the heart of Charleston, West Virginia, comprises 179 acres on a ridge that provides spectacular views of the Kanawha River Valley and the state Capitol. It has more than 1,500 trees that represent 109 distinct species. Many are native to the Appalachian region, but there is a healthy population of unusual non-native trees. Five miles of paved roads and walks provide access to the trees within historic cemetery grounds; visitors may learn about the different tree species in the Ratrie Arboretum by using a mobile device to scan QR-coded tree labels. The arboretum is open dawn to dusk every day of the year. Admission and parking are free.
