DuPage County Campus Arboretum
DuPage County Campus Arboretum
The DuPage County Campus Arboretum is situated within 202 acres of property in Wheaton, Illinois. The sprawling campus is home to administration, transportation, judicial and health services for the nearly one million residents of DuPage County. Interspersed among the 19 buildings, and County fairgrounds, are landscaping and plantings installed at various times during the development of the campus. Over the past 5 years the County has worked to restore and enhance the quality of vegetation on the campus. A phased plan is in place to drastically increase the diversity of species on campus. The cornerstone of the arboretum plan is to highlight the use and benefits of native species in the landscape.
The campus has over 2800 trees representing 42 different species. Of the available tree species, 29 were selected to be highlighted for the Level 1 designation. These specimens were chosen for their condition and accessibility to the public. Addition features of campus include; a green roof, that can be seen from the Administration building, various native gardens, and 16-acres of woodland and wetland along Winfield Creek.
