The arboretum at Ashland is part of the historic grounds of the Henry Clay Estate. Over 400 trees representing forty-four species populate the seventeen-acre estate. Visitors of all ages can attend specialized tours of the arboretum to learn about taxonomy and identification of its trees. Some of the trees are more than a century old, such as the Norway Spruce and Sugar Maple, while two of our of Blue Ash are over 200 years old. Kentucky’s largest Washington Hawthorn and Paper Birch are found at Ashland. Also this idyllic collection is the Running Buffalo Clover, an endangered species that still grows at Ashland.
